So in the beginning you can make some ~~money making scarfs~~ - I've done several thousands of fox scarfs myself even though the supply of fox furs are limited.		Killing foxes and making fox scarves is what you need to do to advance next in manufacturing. You will need to kill many foxes and make many scarves. You can actually buy the fox furs for as low as 7-8gc each and buy thread for 2gc each from general store and then make fox scarfs and sell them back to the general store for 10gc each. So in the beginning you can make some profit through scarves - I've done several thousands of fox scarfs myself even though the supply of fox furs are limited.
