-The best way to stay alive when first starting to fight is to complete the Tutorial NPC's quests.  He will give you basic armor and a weapon.  It is then a good idea to start fighting rabbits.  After you can kill rabbits easily start rats, then beavers.  If you need to be healed, the Tutorial NPC will heal you until attack level 17.
