ANNOUNCEMENTS

05/22/08 - DragonCairn's PC = Offline

Last night DragonCairn started updating his personal computer to the latest version of Ubuntu. Today he will be attempting to downgrade to Gutsy Gibbon. Here's the problems he's having... This means all work he's been doing to keep the server happy is at a halt until this is resolved. Solutions can be sent to him care of GMAIL.COM.

Keyboard

Once the GUI loads, and the X login displays, the keyboards cease to function, except the NumLock and Caps Lock keys.

Solution

Press ESCAPE during GRUB load and go down to the previous version of HH.

Video

Once we bypass the part about the keyboards not working by using the solution above, we encounter the fact that the NVIDIA drivers just aren't sticking to xorg.conf. Replacing with xorg.conf backups from prior just isn't working. We're stuck with 800x600 on one of 3 monitors attached.

Groovix

DC shares his computer with Audhilde. Using Groovix Software more than 1 person can use the machine at the same time, each with their own Keyboard, Video, Mouse, and Audio...it's pretty slick stuff, and I was hoping to figure out how to configure it for 3sessions of KVM - 2 of them having Audio {Unless I could get the onboard sound working for the 3rd session}. Unfortunately, this software only works with GG.

ULTIMATE SOLUTION

Roll back to Ubuntu 7.10. Thanks to Takiro (again proving himself the Linux Hero) I did not reformat my /home partition. (For those that don't know Takiro is the one who did the original configuration of DCNet.) I attempted to install a64 first, but it refused to accept my /home path... worse it wouldn't let me install the Groovix Software. Now, we've got everything back in process of being reinstalled, and things look promising. It's going to take me much longer to get back to where I was than I had imagined, but once I can figure out how to configure the Groovix software life will be good again. I renamed the pc to Cerberus in the hopes that I can take it from Two Headed (KVMA) to Three Headed which will require configuring one profile with the on board audio (less than wonderful quality, but I'm tone deaf anyway, so it won't be that bad.

Forum Access

Without forum access, many things are blocked to a user, but we don't hand out forum access to just anyone. To get access you must, create an account on the wiki and the forum with the same name as you use in Eternal Lands and contact DragonCairn by emailing him @gmail.com. DragonCairn[at]gmail[dot]com

Infact your account here probably won't get activated without an email to DragonCairn[at]gmail[dot]com - but that's just a guess.

How to Handle Secrets

To log a secret - you must create a post in the secrets thread of our forum. Link from here to that post, and then edit it to link back to where the secret exists. Please see Desert Pines for more details.

Should you need more info

If you need information about how to work with a wiki, you can try the following links for information:

The most important thing for a wiki are cross-links between pages. If there is no link to a page, it doesn't exist, so remember to add cross-links to all relevant pages.

Please drop a line to DC if you think one of the items below needs to be moved to the left hand side.

A Bot in the Spirit of Fellowship

  • Do you have an idea for what features you think a bot should have?
  • Are you willing to write code to create a bot?

If either question is yes, and you have a forum account then please send DragonCairn a forum PM expressing your interest in taking part in such a project. You will then be granted access to the BOT section of the forum.
