Manufacturing guide by Silvatica

There are many that has thought that manufacturing is a job that can earn them a lot of money. They are sadly disappointed by the the fact that drops from creatures and the many fighters make the items worth less than the ingredients. A sad example is the titanium long sword, which have a market value worth 1/10 of the ingredients.

Starting out

If you want to become good at manufacturing you need to join the manufacturing god, this should be one of the first things you do - the extra 20 percent manufacturing experience you get is critical to level fast in manufacturing.

Visit all houses on IP to find the quest that gives you the first few levels in manufacturing. Do the quest and you are on your way to become the next manufacturing giant.

Getting to level 10.

Killing foxes and making fox scarves is what you need to do to advance next in manufacturing. You will need to kill many foxes and make many scarves. You can actually buy the fox furs for as low as 7-8gc each and buy thread for 2gc each from general store and then make fox scarfs and sell them back to the general store for 10gc each. So in the beginning you can make some profit through scarves - I've done several thousands of fox scarfs myself even though the supply of fox furs are limited.

The leather helm hell

Do the leather quest, it starts in Morcraven Marsh, you will need cheap leather. Even if you can buy them from bots or other players for a decent price before doing the leather quest, this quest will provide another way to save money, which is vital to becoming a great manufacturer.

There is a small demand for leather armours, but its hard to sell to other players. However there are several bots that buy a limited supply of them. So find out which and try to sell some to those that pay a decent price. However you wont get rich or level manufacturing fast doing that.

Basically all fur clothes are useless - well fur pants is not too bad to manufacture and sell to Trik in Lakeside but requires a large amount of animal parts so its hard to do a large amount of them.

There is no denying it - leather helms is the pinnacle of manufacturing - it's the item that most people have manufactured a lot and then either by selling them to Trik or poofing them in a school on a special school day. You can actually break even or hardly lose any money at all by selling the leather helms you make to Trik for 20gc each if you do the leather quest. Making leather helms is the main way to level manufacturing.

If you have the money for it - burn the leather helm in school on school day will give decent experience but costs are high. However if you want to become a big time manufacturer you have to invest a huge amount of money into it.

Smithing the Steel Two Edged Sword - level 30+ Artificial 3

Most of the low level swords are dropped so they are worth a lot less then the ingredients - the only exception is the S2E which there is a market for. Hydro runners need S2E to harvest hydrogenium ore and as such the price is about 950 and the ingredients cost 922 so it's possible to make S2E and make a small profit from them. It requires a large supply of steel bars which you can either buy or make yourself.

Still don't forget to use the manufacturing gods blessing when making S2E at level 30 so you don't fail too often.

Either sell the S2E or use them to make your own hydro runs and buy the nexuses you need to make higher level items.

Higher levels

Well now continue to make S2E and poofing leather helms on school days and you will slowly but surely go on to higher manufacturing levels. But you still have a long way to go before being #1 in manufacturing. Hopefully this guide will learn you the steps needed to become good at manufacturing.
